Amazon Virtual Multipacks:
New Listings in Your Catalog You Didn't Create — What to Do Before August 10

Amazon finished auto-creating Virtual Multipack listings for eligible FBA ASINs on July 27, 2026. They go live to customers on August 10. Right now you have a review window — edit, keep, or permanently delete — before shoppers ever see them.

What Virtual Multipacks Actually Are

A Virtual Multipack (VMP) is a new listing Amazon automatically generates from an existing single-pack FBA ASIN — typically a 2-pack, 3-pack, or 5-pack version of something you already sell as a single unit. Amazon creates it as a variation linked to your original ASIN, using your existing inventory to fulfil orders. No new SKU to physically build, no extra packaging, no separate inbound shipment.

The key distinction from regular multipacks: VMPs are created by Amazon, not by the seller. Previous Amazon policy only allowed manufacturers to create multipacks. The Virtual Multipack programme changes that — but in a way where Amazon is the one making the decision about which ASINs get multipack variations and what pack sizes get created.

How Virtual Multipacks work — end to end

Amazon decides
Amazon selects eligible brand-owned ASINs showing strong multi-unit purchase signals. You can't manually opt in or force eligibility.

🚫
The permanent delete rule — read this first If you delete a Virtual Multipack during the review window, it cannot be reactivated. Amazon has made this a one-way door. If you're unsure about a VMP, it is safer to leave it live temporarily and monitor performance than to delete it now and lose access permanently. Delete only when you are certain you don't want the multipack configuration.

How to Find Your VMP Listings Right Now

VMPs don't announce themselves — they appear quietly in Manage All Inventory. Many sellers discovered them for the first time when unfamiliar ASINs appeared in their accounts during the pilot and assumed something was wrong. Nothing is wrong. Here's exactly where to look.

Finding your VMPs in Seller Central — 3 steps
1
Go to Manage All Inventory
In Seller Central: Inventory → Manage All Inventory. This is the only view that shows VMP listings alongside your standard ASINs.
Inventory → Manage All Inventory
2
Filter or search for "VMP_"
Every auto-created Virtual Multipack SKU begins with the prefix "VMP_". Use the search bar to filter for this prefix and see only your multipack listings. Look also for the "Virtual Multipacks" label in the listing type column.
Search: VMP_ (in the SKU search field)
3
Review each VMP before August 10
For each VMP listing you find: check the auto-generated pack size, review the default pricing Amazon has set, inspect the auto-generated images, and decide whether to keep as-is, edit pricing and content, or permanently delete. All three actions are available within the review window.
👁️
VMPs may look suppressed or inactive at first During the July 27–August 10 review window, VMP listings may appear with a "Listing Suppressed" or inactive status. This is expected — they have been created but are not yet live to customers. The suppressed status resolves automatically on August 10 when they go live. Do not interpret suppressed status as an error that needs fixing.

Pricing Mechanics: What Amazon Sets by Default

Amazon's default VMP pricing is straightforward — but for most sellers, it's not the right price to leave live.

Default VMP pricing — how Amazon calculates it
Your single-pack price $18.99 example
Amazon's default 3-pack price $56.97 (3 × $18.99)
Problem: no bulk discount baked in 0% savings for buyer
Recommended: add a bulk incentive $52.99 (saves buyer ~$4)
Result: higher AOV + buyer incentive to choose multi-pack Win-win

Amazon's auto-calculated price (unit price × pack size) gives the buyer no reason to choose the multipack over buying singles. If you want VMPs to actually convert, edit the pricing before August 10 to include a small bulk discount — typically 5–10% is enough to shift buyer behaviour toward the higher-AOV option without meaningfully hurting your per-unit margin.

💡
What you can edit before August 10 You can modify: title, price, images, and description. You cannot modify the pack size — that is set by Amazon and fixed for the life of the VMP. If the pack size Amazon chose doesn't make commercial sense (a 5-pack of a premium $80 product, for example), deletion is the right call.

The PPC Impact You Need to Understand Before August 10

Virtual Multipacks are variations on your main ASIN — meaning sponsored traffic targeting your keywords can now land on either the single-pack or a multipack variant. For most sellers, this creates three distinct PPC challenges that need to be addressed before August 10 to avoid wasted spend and distorted campaign data.

📊
Traffic splitting between pack sizes
High risk
Sponsored traffic that previously landed exclusively on your single-pack can now surface any variation. Your CPC costs and conversion data may shift as impression share distributes across pack sizes with different conversion rates.
📈
ACoS distortion from multipack AOV
Medium risk
A sale on the 3-pack generates 3× the revenue of a single-pack sale from the same ad click. Your ACoS targets will look artificially better on any click that converts to a multipack — which can mislead automated bidding rules if not accounted for.
🔍
Keyword attribution fragmentation
Medium risk
Campaign reporting attributing conversions to the ASIN that was sponsored may now show some sales as originating from a VMP variation — making it harder to measure true keyword performance on your main listing without filtering by ASIN.
💰
Organic keyword cannibalisation
Low-medium risk
VMP variations appearing as pack-size options on the detail page can intercept organic search traffic that would otherwise convert on your single-pack. For high-margin single-pack products, monitor whether VMP introduction affects organic rank.

What to do about PPC before August 10

The simplest immediate action: pull a keyword-level performance report from your Sponsored Products campaigns and note your current ACoS and conversion rates by keyword. This gives you a clean pre-VMP baseline to compare against once the multipacks go live. If ACoS drops significantly after August 10, it's likely because higher-AOV VMP conversions are being attributed to those same keywords — a good thing, but one you need to track intentionally.

If you want to run dedicated PPC campaigns specifically for your VMPs — using the VMP ASIN as the target — you can do so after August 10. This lets you test whether multi-unit buyers respond to different ad creative or targeting strategies than single-pack buyers, and gives you clean attribution data for each pack size.

Keep, Edit, or Delete: A Decision Framework

Once you've found your VMP listings, you have three options. Here's when to choose each one.

Scenario Decision Rationale
Consumable or replenishment product at a pack size that makes commercial sense Keep + edit price VMPs are designed exactly for this. Adjust pricing to include a 5–10% bulk discount and let the multipack drive higher AOV organically.
Product with strong multi-unit purchase signal already showing in your review data Keep + edit price Buyers are already telling you they want multiples. A VMP makes that easier and captures AOV you're currently leaving on the table.
Default price is fine but images look low quality or generic Edit images + keep Amazon auto-generates VMP images from your single-pack. Replace with professionally composed multi-unit imagery if you have it — conversion rate will be higher.
High-price premium product where a 5-pack creates a $400+ basket Delete Large multipack baskets for premium items rarely convert well. The VMP is unlikely to generate meaningful sales and may create price-anchor confusion.
Product where you already sell a physical multipack on a separate ASIN Delete Running a VMP and a physical multipack at the same pack size creates cannibalism. One of them should win — and your physical multipack with dedicated packaging usually converts better.
Seasonal product that's out of season at launch time Keep but monitor closely A VMP live during off-season won't sell much, but remember: deletion is permanent. Keep it, suppress it from PPC targeting, and evaluate at next season peak.
Pack size Amazon chose doesn't match your category's natural buying pattern Delete You cannot change the pack size — only delete. If a 4-pack doesn't make sense for your product (where 2-pack or 6-pack would), deleting and waiting for a more appropriate configuration is reasonable.

The Upside: How VMPs Can Increase Your AOV and Organic Reach

Despite the action required, Virtual Multipacks are genuinely good news for most FBA sellers in the right categories. Here's why vendors have had this capability for years and third-party sellers have been requesting it.

The VMP opportunity — if managed correctly
For consumables, supplements, cleaning products, pet supplies, and any other product with natural multi-unit purchasing behaviour, VMPs can meaningfully lift average order value with zero additional fulfilment complexity.
📦
Higher AOV, same fulfilment cost per unit. A 3-pack order picks 3 single-pack units from FBA stock. Your fulfilment cost is 3× the single-pack fee — but there's no bundling, kitting, or additional prep cost. The margin structure is clean.
🔍
Variation family visibility boost. VMPs appear as pack-size selectors on your product detail page. A listing with a visible 1-pack / 2-pack / 3-pack selector can feel more established and professional, which may marginally improve conversion on the single-pack too.
💳
Natural Subscribe and Save overlap. Products that make sense as VMPs often make sense as S&S enrolments. A customer who buys a 3-pack is already demonstrating consumption intent — a Subscribe & Save prompt at checkout converts this cohort at a higher rate than average.
🏷️
No listing setup cost. Creating a physical multipack requires new packaging, separate FNSKU labels, and often factory-side changes. VMPs give you the consumer-facing upside at zero operational cost — Amazon handles the listing creation and image generation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I opt in to get Virtual Multipacks for my other ASINs?+
No. Amazon selects eligible ASINs automatically based on multi-unit purchase signals in the customer data. There is no manual opt-in or way to "force" an ASIN into the programme. You can only review, edit, or delete the VMPs Amazon creates for you. Maintaining excellent listing health and performance on your existing ASINs is the best way to remain eligible for future VMP creation waves.
What happens to a Virtual Multipack if my main ASIN goes out of stock?+
If the base single-pack ASIN goes out of stock in FBA, the Virtual Multipack will temporarily disappear from the product detail page. It returns automatically when your single-pack inventory is restocked. There is no separate inventory to manage for VMPs — they draw directly from your standard single-pack FBA stock.
Are there any additional Amazon fees for Virtual Multipacks?+
There is no additional fee to create or maintain a Virtual Multipack listing. Fulfilment fees are charged per unit at the normal FBA rate — a 3-pack order incurs 3× the single-unit fulfilment fee. Referral fees are charged on the total VMP sale price, not per individual unit. The economics are straightforward: cost structure scales linearly with units fulfilled.
Will Virtual Multipacks appear in my standard Seller Central sales reports?+
VMP sales appear in the Sales Reports for Virtual Bundles and Virtual Multipacks section of Seller Central — not in the standard sales reports by default. This means if you're not actively looking for them, VMP revenue won't show up in your usual reporting view. Set up a separate report filter for VMP ASINs after August 10 to track their performance accurately.
What is the best tool to understand which keywords drive traffic to my main ASIN before VMPs go live?+
SellerSprite's keyword traffic analysis and Reverse ASIN tools show you exactly which keywords are currently driving organic and sponsored traffic to your listing — so you have a clean baseline before Virtual Multipacks potentially redistribute that traffic across pack-size variations.
